Timetables & Shifts — Which Type Do I Need?

Timetables & Shifts

A Timetable defines when a work period starts/ends and its rules (grace, overtime). A Shift assigns a timetable to each day of the week. Every employee needs a Shift (via a Schedule) to be processed correctly.

The 3 Timetable Types

  • General — one fixed check-in/check-out window per day (e.g. 09:00–17:00), the most common case
  • Flexible — an employee can check in any time within a window, and their shift length is measured from that check-in (e.g. "work any 8 hours starting between 08:00–10:00")
  • Split — a single day is divided into multiple separate work segments (e.g. 09:00–13:00 and 16:00–20:00), each with its own timing rules — common for retail/hospitality

Automatic Default

Every new employee is automatically given a real, ordinary "Default" Timetable + Shift + Schedule (a General type, editable/deletable like any other) the moment they're created — you don't need to manually set one up just to get attendance processing working. Adjust it, or assign a different existing Shift, whenever the employee's real hours differ.

Where to Configure

Go to Attendance → Timetables to create/edit timetable definitions, Attendance → Shifts to build a weekly pattern from them, and Attendance → Schedules to assign a Shift to an employee or whole department for a date range.

Priority When Multiple Schedules Overlap

If an employee has more than one active schedule, EasyTime resolves in this order: a one-off Temporary Schedule (highest priority) → the employee's own Employee Shift Schedule → their Department's Shift Schedule → automatic shift detection as a last resort.
